When is Roadmaster Stop Light Switch RM-751471 Required for Flat Towing

Question:

I have an smi duo brake system, the hopkins wiring harness HM56208 and a roadmaster brake relay for a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Overland. I was also told I need a stop light switch however I have been reading that I may not. I want to install the indicator light in the RV dash, however do I need the roadmaster stop light switch or can I tap into a brake light switch in the jeep to install a led in the RV. I dont want to add any more stuff to the brake pedal.

On your 2017 Jeep Cherokee Overland you will need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch # RM-751471 only if EITHER your vehicle's brake lights do NOT illuminate when the vehicle is off OR if the ignition is in the "tow" position.

You can avoid use of the relay # RM-88400 if you use magnetic lights like # TL21RK.
