2013 Honda Odyssey Traction Light On with Tekonsha Voyager 39510 Brake Controller Installed

Question:

Hi, I bought the ETBC7 kit from etrailer to use with my Voyager XP controller on my 2013 Odyssey minivan. The install went perfect thanks to your video and everything seems to work great. THe only issue is now the traction light and check engine lights are both on and I have no idea why. There were 2 teal wires on the break switch that lit when the pedal was pushed - did I tap the wrong one? Otherwise I have the controller grounded to the negative terminal on the battery and, again, everything functions perfectly. Thank you for any assistance!

Since your Voyager brake controller # 39510 is operating correctly it is likely that the dashboard error messages you're seeing could be due to an incorrect wire used for the input signal. The # ETBC7 kit you purchased includes a circuit tester that allows you to test each wire at the pedal to find the ONE wire that goes hot ONLY when the pedal is pressed and at no other time.

Auto makers can change wire colors without notice so testing is really the only truly good way to find the correct wire to connect to a brake controller's red input signal wire. Again, the right wire is the ONE that carries a 12V signal ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed and at no other time or with any other vehicle function engaged. This is shown in the linked video at the 7:00-minute mark.

On this particular 2014 vehicle the brake pedal wiring had only one teal wire. You can still test the other teal wire you found (without disconnecting anything) to see if it shows power at different times than the other wire you used for installation.
