Why are the Reese Outboard 5th Wheel Rails Taller than Regular Rails for a 2017 Ford F-250
Question:
Why are the extended length rails taller? I see in the video about 3/4 inch difference comparison and my 2017 F250 is taller than my 2015 F350 so concerned with even this small height difference. Do you make the 48inch rails in the 43inch height?

Expert Reply:
The newer, taller rails such as those in 5th wheel installation kit # RP56017-53 for your 2017 Ford F-250 make it easier to pin in the hitch and work better for taller bed sides in newer trucks. The shorter rails such as those in kit # RP50074-58 are only available in the standard length.
To compensate for the height difference you can lower the hitch (on most 5th wheel hitches) and/or raise the pin box on the trailer (if it is not already at the highest setting).
