Recommended 4-way To 7-way Trailer Connection Kit With Wiring And Brake Controller
Question:
I have a 2010 Highlinder Limited AWD, non Hybrid. I currently have a 4 pin flat trailer wire on. I want to convert to a 7 way to run with a trailer break. I saw a etrailer question answered by a tech giving step by step on how to do the conversion to a highlander hybrid. Im wondering if its the same process for mine?

On your 2010 Toyota Highlander Limited AWD, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller which means it applies your trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brakes in your Highlander. This brake controller is a really nice option because it uses an LCD screen to dismiss the code deciphering of most other brake controllers. You see what you need to know with a quick glance. It is adjustable for your driving preferences and has storable presets for you if you will be using the same trailers time after time.
For your 2010 Highlander, there isn't a custom wiring harness, so I recommend using the Universal Brake Controller Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit will give you the trailer connector that lets you plug in a current 4-pin connector and then run the other wires for a 7-way connector you can use with a brake controller. I've attached a video of this install on the same model vehicle as well as an article to assist.
