Where to Set Curt Q24 5th-Wheel Hitch Height on 2014 Ram 3500

Question:

Hey Guys. I just installed my curt Q24 5th wheel hitch in my 2014 single axel ram 3500. The inside of my bed height measures to 21. My total bed rail height from the ground is 59. I just started a job pulling 5th wheel rvs and I have no idea what setting to set my hitch at. Is there an industry standard height of 5th wheel rvs that I can use to give me a round about idea? My truck sits higher than a lot of standard trucks so I dont want to set it on the highest setting but Im not sure about the middle or the lower setting. Can you help me on this?

Your Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16546 features a 4 inch height adjustment, from 17-1/2 inches up to 21-1/4 inches. Since it sounds like you will be pulling multiple 5th-wheel trailers, you may need to adjust the height of the hitch more than once.

Basically, you will just want to adjust to whichever height setting that allows the trailer to sit as level as possible. Along with making sure the trailer is level, you want to have right around 6 inches from the top of the bed rails on your Ram 3500 to the bottom of the trailer overhang. This is to ensure that the trailer does not contact your bed rails when traveling.

Depending on the different types of trailers you will be towing, you may need to adjust the hitch head on your Curt Q24 for each application. I have also attached an article on fifth-wheel trailers that you may find helpful.
