Recommended Frame Mounted Trailer Hitch And Cargo Carrier For Lance 2375 Travel Trailer

Question:

Can the swagman bike rack be used to carry a 70 pound generator? Assuming of course that the generator is adequately secured to the bike rack. I have a Handi Honda Generator that I would like to secure to the ladder rather than to a hitch mounted tray on the back of my Lance 2375 Travel Trailer. The Hitch kit available from Lance is only rated at 135 pounds and when you consider a 27 pound cargo tray and a 70 pound generator along with any leverage affect I think I would be pushing the limits on that solution. What do you think.

Using a bike carrier to carry a generator would certainly void the warranty of the carrier and may create an unsafe situation.

I recommend installing a frame mounted trailer hitch like part # 13703 on your Lance 2375. This hitch will work with C-channel, I-beam, or box frames from 22 to 72 inches wide. The trailer hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 350-lbs. Per Curt, any non-trailer loads applied to this product must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps like part # 18050.

For a cargo carrier I recommend the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18152. This carrier measures 60-inches wide x 24-inches deep.

To secure the generator to the carrier I recommend tie-down straps like part # IMF12637.

looking for a frame mounted, not a hitch mounted steel carrier that can be folded up when not in use. what do you have.

The closest option we have to something like that is a bumper-mount carrier like the Mount-n-Lock # MNT54FR. These don't have the ability to fold up but they do offer a large and durable platform for cargo or a generator. Everything else we have available is designed to attach to a hitch receiver.
