Availability of a Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2000 Mercury Sable Wagon

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he stated that the reason the T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55375, cannot be used with the 2000 Mercury Sable Wagon is because it uses a different type of connector on the tail light wiring. This is the same issue with harnesses from other companies as well.

We do have a wiring harness for your vehicle. You will need to use 4-Pole Hardwire Kit Including Circuit Tester, # 18252. This is a typical hardwire harness. To install it, you will need access behind each of the tail lights. Using the included circuit tester, probe the wires behind the driver side tail light until you find the one with a constant signal when the vehicle lights are on. Connect the brown wire to this wire.

Next, find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the left blinker and attach the yellow wire to it. The white wire will need to be grounded to a bare metal surface. Next, route the green wire to the passenger side tail light. Find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the right blinker and attach the green wire to it.

The 4-Way connector will be stowed in the rear cargo area when not in use. When ready to use it, pull it out to the length needed. You can close the hatch on the wiring and the weather stripping will protect it. Just avoid areas where the hatch latches and locks on the vehicle.
