Since your vehicle did not come from the factory with a hitch installed, there is no factory installed trailer wiring. You will need to hardwire a trailer connector using part # 119178KIT. Simply access the tail light assemblies from the rear, and use the included circuit tester to identify which circuit controls which function, then make your connections as necessary. Start by activating the left turn signal. Use the circuit tester to probe the wires exiting the taillight assembly on the drivers side until you find a wire that lights up the tester. Attach the yellow wire to this circuit using the quick splice included with the kit. Do the same for the brake light, the running lights and the right turn signal. Ground the white wire to the vehicle.
I have provided a link to an installation video that will help walk you through the install process. The video shows the wiring harness being installed on a different vehicle, but the process for your Escape would be similar.
