Yes, longer ball mounts like the part # BM20 that you referenced are designed to do exactly what you described. They add length to the distance between the hitch and the trailer.
As long as you stay under the capacity of this ball mount you would be fine. This ball mount has a 10,000 lb capacity with a 1,000 lb tongue weight capacity.
