Removing Kick Panel of 2014 Jeep Cherokee to Install Brake Controller

I removed the screw but panel seems very tight. which way do I pull

Interior panels can fit pretty tight even when the hardware that secures them is removed. You will want to basically pull out and down to get the panel free but you have to be careful not to get too aggressive. The right side should be the easier side to start with.

I have cracked interior panels before from trying to just yank them out so you basically have to proceed with caution and just take it slow as you pry the edges of the panel out.

is the 2017 jeep sport trail done the same way to get the panel off for electric brake harness

Yes, the 2017 model falls within the same generation so the process should be just about identical.
