Recommended Items Needed To Flat-Tow 2001 Jeep Wrangler With U-Channel Bumper

Question:

I am looking for base plates and tow bar to tow a 2001 jeep wrangler sahara with a U channel bumper. Id like to know if any of the recommended base plates can be installed on the factory bumper without drilling/modification. Thanks!

Most of the base plates we offer for your 2001 Wrangler do require drilling of the vehicle frame for installation. We do have one kit that does not drill into the frame. It is the Roadmaster Classic # 1417-1. Per the installation instructions this bracket kit is designed to fit on the top and bottom of the bumper and utilizes existing bumper and tow hook mounting points for attachment.

If you decide you will drill through the frame I recommend part # 1420-1. When installing this kit you will need to drill two 1/2-inch holes in the frame of the Jeep.

The tow bar I recommend is the Roadmaster Falcon 2, part # RM-520. I have attached a link to an installation video of this tow bar with a Wrangler you can check out. This tow bar will work with either of the base plate kits I mentioned.

If you are not familiar with flat-towing you can check out the attached helpful articles that explain what is needed when towing a vehicle. You will need lighting on the towed vehicle, safety cables, and a supplemental brake system.

For safety cables I recommend part # RM-643. For lighting I recommend part # RM-2120.

The supplemental brake system I recommend is part # SM99251.

Finally, you will probably need a high-low adapter to tow your Jeep since you want to tow it as level as possible. I have also attached a link to our product page for the adapters we offer.
