Recommended 4-Way and 7-Way Trailer Wiring Connection for 2006 Ford F-150 4x4

Question:

Hello, I was looking for a 4way to 7way plug in wiring harness like the 2004 # 118247 for my 2006 f150. I just installed the trailer hitch and wanted to have a seven way and four way depending on what I was using it four. Can you give me an idea of what I need, also a wiring diagram if I have to run wires? I am fairly clear on the ground and battery wire even the blue controller. The only thing that Im not sure about 100 is the reverse lights? Please give me some Expert advice. I appreciate all your help!

For your 2006 Ford F150, if you have a factory 7-way then you will only need the Multi-Tow 7-Way & 4 Pole Trailer Connector # 74682 to get the 4-way and 7-way connector. If you don't have the factory 7-way, there is not a plug and play option for your vehicle.

To add a 7-way connector, you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56031 if you don't have a 4-way yet, and then use the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole w/Test Lamps # C57674. This will use your 4-way plug and give you the wires to hardwire the other functions. You will connect white to a groud in the frame. Black to add 12V power from the battery. Blue will connect to a brake controller. Yellow will connect to reverse lights which you can tap into at your tail light using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to probe for function when a friend puts the vehicle in reverse to give power to the wire.

If you want to add a brake controller for a complete 7-way system, I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 Brake Controller along with the adapter harness # 3035-P. Some models have the brake (blue) and hot lead (orange or red) wires already run from under the hood to the dirver's side frame rail, however these wires are hard to access and additional wires will be needed. You may want to use # 5506 for this.
