Replacement Drum Brakes For A 89 Tandem Car Hauler
Question:
Hi there I have a car trailer with 2 dexter axles under it I do believe theyre 3500# axles and the only identification I see on them at all is that on the drum there is a part number 8-247 I was hoping you could help me get some new brake assemblies for it. I need all 4 corners. Thank you much appreciated

The axle part numbers are generally placed on a sticker located at the center point of the axle shaft. The part # 8-247 stamped into the hubs tell me that you have a 3,500 lb axle. To replace the drum brakes on your 3,500 lb Dexter axle you will have a few options. The two options entail the use of self-adjusting or manual brakes. The self-adjusting brakes will move the adjuster screw outward as the pads wear down to ensure optimal wearing and performance of the trailer's brakes, whereas the manual brakes will need to be adjusted through time as the pads wear down.
For a manual electric brake option I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35. These brakes have a 10" diameter and are 2-1/4" wide, compatibility with 13", 14" and 15" wheels.
If you are interested in a self-adjusting drum brake I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting part # AKEBRK-35-SA . These brakes are only marginally more expensive than the non-adjusting drums however offer a much more maintenance free option improving and lengthening the life of your brake shoes.
I also recommend you consider our Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 10" Brake Assemblies part # BRKH10A as it is suggested to replace the mounting hardware because you will already have the hubs disassembled.
