Recommendation on Carrying 4 Bikes on a 2014 GMC Yukon XL

Question:

Im trying to find a way to roof mount 4 adult size bikes to my 2014 Yukon XL. Im wondering if I can get a crossbar thats longer then 60inch or if there are mounts that will fit 4 bikes on a 60? Thank you for your help. By the way, I truly appreciate the videos you have. Theyve been extremely helpful.

I might have a solution for you. Unfortunately on your vehicle, 60 inch long crossbars are the largest cross bars that are confirmed to fit on the roof of your 2014 GMC Yukon XL. Plus carrying four bikes, and four bike racks on your roof might be pushing the normal weight capacity of a roof rack and the roof of your vehicle.

If you have a receiver hitch mounted on you SUV and you have access to the hitch, not towing a trailer, then I recommend the Thule Swing 4 Bike Rack, # TH9027XT. The Thule Apex can carry 4 bikes with a total weight capacity of 150 lbs. The carrier weighs 42 lbs and will fit a 2 x 2 inch receiver hitch opening.

The best feature of the Thule Vertex Swing is the hinged swing arm that allow you to swing the rack away from the vehicle to allow access to your cargo area. Unlike typical hanging bike racks, the Vertex Swing will allow you to keep your bikes mounted to the rack while swinging the rack away from the cargo door.

If you plan to carry step-thru style bike frames, like are found on woman's bikes or specialty bikes, then I recommend the Kuat Ubar Bike Adapter, # UB01. This adapter will provide a horizontal mounting point to allow these types of bike to securely mount to the Thule Vertex bike rack.

I have attached two videos for you to review. One shows the Thule Vertex Swing # TH9031XT installed on a 2015 GMC Yukon XL and the other will show you how the Kuat Adapter Bar # UB01 will work with step-thru frames.
