WD Hitch for Use with Pole Tongue Adapter on 3000-lb Boat Trailer
Question:
Reese had a light duty single bar Weight distribution hitch. Can you use a WD hitch with only one bar? I have a Jeep JK towing a tandem boat trailer with a pole tongue. 3000 lb and less than 300 lb total tongue weight.

A weight distribution (and/or sway control) hitch set-up cannot be used with only one of its spring bars installed. This would create uneven tension between the two sides of the trailer and would lead to handing issues and safety concerns.
The linked page displays all weight distribution (WD) systems without sway control that will work with your 300-lb trailer tongue weight (TW). We have options for both surge brakes and electric brakes; just click on the type you have on your trailer. The ideal situation is that your total trailer TW falls in the middle of the system's operating range. Total TW consists of the trailer's actual measured TW plus the weight of any cargo in the vehicle that sits behind the rear axle. We offer a scale # e99044 to make it easy to know the trailer's actual loaded TW.
For a pole tongue adapter for your TW you can use # RP3280. With this a system such as # RP66540 would be compatible. All you need to add is a hitch ball, either 2-inch # A-90 or 2-5/16-inch # 19286.
