Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a Trailer with a Surge Brake Coupler w/Electric Reverse Lockout

Question:

I have surge brakes on my trialer, When I place my truck in reverse it deactivates the trialer brakes. Will this adaptor work for that? If not what adaptor will? By the way my trialer has the 6 pin round plug.

It is possible to re-pin an adapter like # HM47570, but it would be much easier to add a 7-Way trailer connector to the trailer side and wire it accordingly to function with your reverse lockout. You can use Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End, # PK12706, and wire it to match your vehicle side 7-Way. The center pole on the vehicle side 7-Way will need to be connected to the reverse light circuit.

The new trailer side 7-Way would then need to be wired according to the diagram provided on the product page or you can use the FAQ article I have linked. I have also included a video showing a typical 7-Way trailer side connector being installed. The only circuit that will not be used on the new trailer side 7-Way is the one for electric brakes (5 oclock position if looking at the back of the plug).
