Installing An Electric Brake Controller On A 2010 GMC Sierra 1500
Question:
Does a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Pick up come with the wire harness already installed? So far we always just towed trailers without elec. brakes but got a heavier trailer now that had the brakes on it. Thanks for any help

A 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with the wiring for a 7-way even if it doesn't come with all the components. If you need a 7-way trailer connector, I recommend the Twist-in, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector for Chevy and GMC Vehicles - Vehicle End # PK11916. I've attached a video to assist.
For a brake controller to allow you to tow a trailer with brakes, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This brake controller is a proportional controller meaning it will apply your trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brake pedal in your truck. It has the manual override and a really nice LCD screen to let you know what is happening on your trailer and truck. If there is any issue, there isn't a code to decipher like most controllers, it is easy to understand with a glance. It also is adjustable to your preferences and has 3 levels of boost.
The installation is a hardwire install in your truck, but it is not complicated because the wires are run. I've attached an article as well as a video to assist.
