Recommended Roof Bag for 2015 Dodge Durango SXT with Factory Roof Rack

Question:

We have a 2015 Dodge Durango SXT with a factory installed roof rack. The cross bars come in a position parallel to the sides of the roof. When placed in the cross-roof direction they are about 25inch apart, and that seems to be the only way that Dodge provided to place them. That seems like a short distance if we have to use a roof bag that fits between them. I would appreciate whatever guidance you can provide about roof bags that work with this factory roof rack system.

Many roof bags, such as the Rightline Sport 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S20, are designed to attach to a vehicle's roof in a variety of ways. The Rightline Bag can be used on naked roofs, raised side rails, crossbars or inside of roof cargo baskets.

The crossbars on your 2015 Dodge Durango will simply provide additional attachment points, along with the side rails of your factory roof rack, to secure the bag. The small crossbar spread mentioned in your question should not be an issue as the bag does not necessarily need to fit between them. A cargo bag can simply rest on top of the crossbars as long as it is properly secured and attached to the roof rack using the included straps. You may also choose to move the crossbars back in a parallel position with the side rails and not use them at all with the roof bag.

This particular Cargo Bag offers 15 cubic feet of storage space and measures 44 inches long x 36 inches wide x 19 inches tall. This is a great roof bag that is made of waterproof material and is double-sealed to strengthen its construction and block out moisture.

With this or any rooftop cargo bag, I also recommend using the Rightline Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad # RL100650. This will protect your vehicle from scratches and prevent sharp objects inside the bag from dinging the roof.

I have attached the installation details for this product as well as a link that will take you to our available selection of roof bags for you to look through.
