Recommended Surge Brake Actuating Coupler For Disc Brakes

Question:

I have a tandem axle boat trailer with surge drum brakes dexter 8-201. I want to change to your kodiak k2hr526d. If I leave the tongue surge actuator on that I have now, will the disk brakes engage when backing up?

The surge that you have now is rated for drum brakes, and you would need to get one rated for disc brakes to upgrade to the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 12" Hub/Rotor - 6 on 5-1/2 - Dacromet - 5,200 lbs to 6,000 lbs # K2HR526D. For your brake actuating coupler, I recommend the Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc - Adjustable Ball - 6,000 lbs # T4745720. Disc brakes require more pressure from the master cylinder, so an upgrade is necessary for this application. This actuator has an electric reverse lock out so your disc brakes won't engage when you back up. Your hydraulic lines will function fine with this upgrade so they will not need replaced.
