Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 2011 Toyota Tundra Towing a 3,000 Pound Trailer

Question:

I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra. It is the CrewMax, 4x4, with the 5.7 liter V-8 and factory tow package. If I am reading the specifications correctly, I should not need any weight distribution system for this truck in order to tow a travel trailer with a loaded weight of 3000 pounds max and a tongue weight of 300 pounds max. I would appreciate your opinion on whether I am safe towing without weight distribution. Thanks,

Using weight distribution is recommended when the trailer exceeds 50 percent of the towing vehicle weight, when there is a problem with trailer sway, or if the rear of the vehicle is sagging with the trailer attached. Your truck weighs in at about 5,600 pounds so with your trailer loaded at 3,000 pounds gross, weight distribution would be a good idea.

Adding a system would only help with tracking and ride quality, so it would be a good idea to add one. I recommend a small system with a 200 to 600 pound tongue weight capacity like the Reese Round Bar Weight Distribution Kit with Shank, # RP65509. With this kit, you would just need a properly sized ball, # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter).
