Side Brackets on Curt Trailer Hitch C13702 are too Tight to Slide On and Off Hitch Tube

Question:

The side plate brackets are EXTREMELY difficult to slide onto main body tube. I got them on an inch or two, but to go any further will require a sledge hammer. I dont want to scratch the paint. And to complete the installation, I will need to take the brackets off and on to get everything lined up correctly.

The issue is most likely caused by some excessive powder coating on the brackets, hitch tube, or both for hitch # C13702. It is permissible to sand away excessive powder coat. Some light lubrication will also help. Those two things will probably do the trick but if it still needs a little persuasion might I suggest a rubber mallet rather than a sledge so as not to damage the hitch.
