Installing Hopkins Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole # 37185 On A 2006 F-150 Super Crew
Question:
When installing a 7-pin kit part # 37185 on my 2006 F-150, do I need to also install any additional Relays or Fuses? It looks like all of the needed wires are there at the harness connector by the spare tire.

On your 2006 Ford F-150 Super Crew there are no additional fuses or relays needed when installing the Hopkins Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, part # 37185. A bulk of the wiring for the Hopkins adapter # 37185 is done by simply connecting it to your existing 4-Way. The four remaining wires on the adapter are white (ground), blue (brake controller), black (12v power), and the purple (reverse light).
These wires can be connected to the vehicles wire harness at the harness connector by the spare tire. The white (ground) wire on the adapter gets grounded to the vehicle frame. The blue (brake controller) wire on the adapter gets connected to the blue electric brake controller wire on the vehicle's wiring harness. The black (power) wire connects to the orange or black wire on the vehicles wiring harness. And the purple (reverse light) wire can be connected to the reverse light wire behind one of the taillights. If the trailer does not have reverse lights or an electric reverse lock out, this wire can be taped up and stowed out of the way. It is always a good idea to use a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to make sure you have the right wire.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on Ford brake controllers at the bottom of the page it will describe and show how to connect the 7-way adapter to your vehicle.
