Installing 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole Adapter # C57674 on a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Question:
Can this be installed on my 2010 FJ Cruiser by me, without shorting out or voiding the factory warranty? If so, is there a pictorial install guide availible?

Installing an aftermarket part, like the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, # C57674, will not void the warranty on your 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser unless it is the direct cause of a problem. There is actually a law you can look into called the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless the modification actually caused the problem in question.
I do not have a video or FAQ explaining the installation of part # C57674, but I do have extensive information and videos on a similar part, # 37185. This adapter works the same way. You plug an existing 4-Way into the back and hardwire the remaining 4 wires. White is the ground, and black goes to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker. Blue goes to the blue wire on a brake controller. The last wire can be connected to the reverse light wire behind a tail light is the trailer has reverse lights or an electric reverse lockout.
If your FJ does not have a 4-Way currently, you can install one. You would need Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118405. I have included a link to the installation details for reference. Since installing either C57674 or 37185 will require extra wiring and circuit breakers, I recommend getting the 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit comes with everything needed to add a 7-Way and the wiring for a brake controller.
I have included a link to a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit and another link to our FAQ article on installing a brake controller from scratch that covers the wiring. It may seem like a big project but if you have some experience with automotive and electrical projects, it will not be very difficult.
