Hi, I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500hd . Can it be flat towed and are the base plates which look like they slide into the chassis sufficient to tow it.

The online edition of the owner's manual for the 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD indicates on page 10-95 that the 2WD version cannot be flat towed. You CAN flat tow 4WD versions with a 2-speed transfer case that has Neutral and 4-Wheel-Drive-Low settings.

The linked article provides a overview of the components needed to safely and legally flat tow. These include the tow bar, high/low hitch adapter, safety cables, a wiring/lighting kit, and base plates and a braking system on the towed vehicle. Additional help articles are included too.

For base plates I recommend the Blue Ox kit # BLU22QR because the arms are removable. These are rated for your truck's weight. With this you can use their Alpha tow bar # BX7380 which includes the safety cables. For lighting I like the no-fuss magnetic kits like # TL21RK but we also have diode kits such as # RM-154 with whichi you will use Battery Disconnect # RM-766.

For a braking system I prefer the wireless and portable Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR since it allows easy set-up and requires no permanent mods to the vehicle. If you use a diode kit you will also need a Brake Light Relay # RM-88400 but not if you use magnetic lights.

High/low hitch adapters are shown on a linked page; select the one that allows your connected tow bar to remain level (or no more than 3-inches out of level at either end).
