The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24679 is a confirmed fit for your 2004 VW New Beetle Turbo Diesel. If you will be towing with this hitch, I recommend the Sportframe Drawbar 2-1/8" Rise or 2-3/4" Drop 2000 lb Kit # 3593 along with a hitch ball like # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch ball.
For wiring, I recommend the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit with 4-Pole Connector (Includes Tester) # 119178KIT confirmed to fit your turbo model. This harness will be spliced into your factory wiring using quick splice connectors and will be powered directly by a lead from your battery. It will convert your vehicle lighting signals to those compatible with a trailer and give you a 4-way flat trailer connection for towing or lighted accessories.
