Recommended Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring for 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class
Question:
Hello, I am planning to tow a medium size of RV trailer which requires electric brakes. My 2011 GLK has factory tow package installed with 7-way connector. Please see picture. Any recommendation on which brake controller to be installed? Do you know to wire harness and where harness is located in the car?

To control the electric brakes on your trailer with your 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. This is a great proportional brake controller that will active the trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your vehicle. This model features a digital display, 3 boost models and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. The Prodigy P2 is known for its reliability and ease of installation. I have attached a video review of this product for you to check out.
There is not currently a custom wiring harness available for your vehicle, however to install the brake controller you will just need the Draw-Tite Wiring Kit # 5506. This will include the wires and hardware that is needed to install and power the Prodigy P2 since you already have a factory 7-way connector on your vehicle.
There will be 4 wires coming from the back of the P2 Brake Controller: blue, black, white and red. The blue wire is the brake output wire and it will attach to one of the wires in the duplex cable included in the Wiring Kit. It will then be ran back to the trailer connector. The black wire is for 12 volt power from the vehicle battery. This will attach to the other wire from the duplex wire and ran to the vehicle battery via the included 20 amp circuit breaker. The white wire is ground and I recommend running this to negative post on the battery, or it can be grounded to a clean, bare metal surface. Finally, the red wire connects to the cold side of the stop light switch at the brake pedal. The red wire will splice to the wire that only carries a signal when the brake pedal is pressed.
