Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2016 Honda HR-V with Manual Transmission Behind a Motorhome

Question:

I am looking for information about towing a car with my motorhome. My motorhome is a 25 ft diesel 2016 Class C Itasca Navion Winnebago, on a Mercedes Sprinter platform. It has a two inch hitch. The car to be towed is a 2016 Honda HR-V. I have two questions: 1 What brand of towing equipment would you recommend? 2 Which specific pieces of equipment do I need? Thanks and please respond at your earliest.

To flat tow your 2016 Honda HR-V you'll need a tow bar, base plates, wiring, and likely a high-low adapter. You'll also want to consult your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle is able to be flat towed without damaging it. From my research your HR-V is approved by Honda to flat tow because of the manual transmission. The automatic models cannot because the transmission will be damaged.

The Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 is a great option to tow your Honda. It has a large hookup raidus and self-aligns so hooking up is easier and smoother. It connects right up to the EZ4 Base Plates # RM-521570-4 that are confirmed to fit your HR-V.

To power the Honda's lights I suggest the diode kit # RM-15267. This will use the vehicle's tail lights by connecting to the Winnebago's and includes the cord to go between the two. You'll need to pull fuses in order to tow the HR-V. To make this easier we have Fusemaster Fuse Bypasses # RM76511 and # RM76512.

For a supplemental braking system the Air Force One part # SM99243, is the best option for you. Your Winnebago has air brakes so you want a system specifically for them. Otherwise you could have false braking on the Honda.

Finally, you'll likely need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop your setup requires. I've also linked our selection of adapters for you to look at once you know what you need.

In addition to my recommendations I've linked some articles on flat towing that you may find helpful.
