Can the Thule T2 Bike Rack be Used with a 2017 Mazda CX-9 with Factory 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch
Question:
I currently have a T2 rack, but with a 2inch shank. I have a new car/hitch 2017 Mazda CX-9, stock Class II 1.25inch hitch. So my plan is to buy this new shank assembly. But I read the Thule.com fitting guide and it says I need to have a minimum pin hole depth of 1.5. I measured and the pin hole depth on my new car factory hitch and it is about 1inch pin hole depth. Will this still work ok?

I can't recommend going forward with the T2 hitch since not enough of the shank will be in the hitch receiver on your 2017 Mazda CX-9. The best solution I can offer is to remove the factory hitch on the vehicle (as long as it is not welded on) and replace it with a Class III hitch # 76020. This will actually cost less than changing the shank on the bike rack!
If the hitch is welded on I recommend going with a different bike rack such as the lightweight Swagman XC # S64650. It weighs just about 25 pounds and is compatible with many bike styles. You can use the hitch lock and cable # S64031 with this rack to deter theft.
