Stoplight Circuit Location Option for Installing Brake Controller on 2006 BMW X5

Question:

Hi, we purchased your experts recommended parts list for installing a tow kit on our 2006 BMW X5 4.4i, including the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. Can you help us find the cold side of brake switch on the BMW that is referred to in the included instructions for connecting the brake control? I assume this is referring to the brake signal, but I dont know where to locate that on the x5. Can an extension be made to the rear brake signal on the 4-way lighting kit ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit Item # 119250KIT, or is that signal not clean enough since its a mixed signal with the running lights?

Sounds like you are looking for a way to isolate the stoplight circuit for the installation of a brake controller in your vehicle. The part # 118158 when wired to your trailer wiring # 119250KIT can give you an isolated brake signal if you can't find it at the pedal.

Or if there is wiring at the stoplight switch on the brake pedal of the truck you can test the wires that lead to it with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to find the circuit that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied.
