Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Forest River Shamrock 23 Foot

Question:

My tow vehicle is a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado LS 1500 with the 5.3L engine. My camper is the Forest River Shamrock 23 ft. Dry weight around 4500 lbs. Im looking for a weight distribution with sway control hitch. What is the best to purchase for my setup? Thanks

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

It's hard to get an exact tongue weight figure that your trailer would have when loaded since you listed the dry total weight to be 4,500 lbs, but realistically the Strait Line part # RP66083 would be your best option in that regard most likely. It has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs and features the only sway control on the market that works to fight sway before it starts.

If you need a higher rated setup we have the part # RP66084 which has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and has the same great sway control.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
