Comparing The Hopkins Wiring Harness To The Roadmaster Wiring Kit For 2017 Ford F-150

Question:

I see that you are recommending the hard wired Roadmaster wiring with diodes and splicing the wires. Is there a reason you wouldnt use the plug in Hopkins wiring on a 2017 F-150, and would instead opt to splice into the wiring with the Roadmaster wiring? What are advantages and disadvantages of both?

For your 2017 Ford F-150, the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles HM56009 has been recently discontinued by the manufacturer. The only reason I recommend a Roadmaster wiring kit like # RM-15267 over a plug and play option is because of the other features in the kit. The 6-way, mount, connecting wire, and loom make a really clean point of access, especially if there is a braking system recommended that is a wired unit that stays in the vehicle.

You can always piece them together individually, but it may be at a greater cost. The Hopkins harness is really nice and easy to install and keeps you from splicing which is a really nice feature.
