Troubleshooting Malfunctioning Electric Trailer Brakes on a Utility Trailer
Question:
my trailer brakes set and release and then i start my truck and get a OL message and no brakes. The brakes on my travel trailer work just fine, work trailer nothing The only thing I see is Hhaul Activator II

After researching your brake controller, it sounds like you have a ground short on you trailer. The code OL stands for Over Load, which means a shorted or over loaded brake circuit. You will need to check the brake wiring on the trailer.
Look for frayed wiring that could be contacting the surface of your trailer. Also, check to make sure all the grounds are properly secured to a clean section of the trailer.
If the wiring looks good, then you will need to check the brake magnets on your brake assemblies. I have attached an article that will show how to test your magnets for defects. Using a multimeter like # PT89ZR will help you diagnose if there is an issue with your magnets on your trailer brakes.
