Before buying snow tire chains, you will want to check your owners manual or with the Mercury dealer to determine if you can install snow tire chains on your Mercury Montego, or if there are any limitations.
I would recommend the Thule XG12 Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, part # TH01594240. These chains will fit your Mercury Montego with the 225/55R18 tire size and are quick and easy to install. Since your vehicle is front wheel drive you will want to install them on the front tires.
These snow chains have an internal clearance of 12mm, which means it is a SAE Class S rated snow chain. A Class S snow tire chain has to have an internal clearance of 15mm or less. That measurement means the clearance between the tire sidewall and the closest part of your vehicle. Most of the newer vehicles with larger tires recommend Class S snow chains because of limited tire clearance.
