Best Fifth Wheel Towing Setup for 2017 Ford Super Duty Factory Rail Kit
Question:
Several questions here: 1. In one of the reviews the customer stated Takes a little getting use to the 1inch play you get when you first come off of the cam in a corner.inch What does that mean? It sounds like chucking to me. Can you elaborate? 2. And on the same topic any complaints of chucking, noise, groans or other distractions when using the hitch? 3. I have ordered a F350 short bed with the factory puck kit that should be delivered in mid-May. If I decide on the Demco, how much lead time should I allow in placing an order with you to have the hitch delivery coincide with the truck delivery. I live in Georgia. 4. I see the locking bar is 3/4inch thick. Are the jaw pins the same thickness? 5. Do you recommend the use any of the Teflon type pin cushions/pads? I know there isnt supposed to be much if any rotational movement of the pin box on the hitch, but there will be metal to metal contact when hitching/unhitching. I like shiny and new looking all the time. 6. I didnt see much about maintenance. There was a discussion of greasing jaw pins in the video but no discussion of the frequency, So what other maintenance activities need to be performed and how often? 7. It seems the only other auto-slider to consider is the Pullright. Any thoughts on the two products. 8. And Im seriously thinking of scrapping this whole idea of a sliding hitch. Yes, Ive heard the stories of windows, but it seems to be if you jack around a truck far enough to get a window, you got other problems. Ive backed boat trailers and pop-up campers for years and have never been is a situation where truck met trailer. And I understand that it only has to happen once. But lots of people have gone years and never got themselves in that situation. So, on average, how many customers do you hear from weekly/monthly that have stated they are upgrading to a slider because they had truck/camper contact? Enough, enough of the questions for now. I look forward to your help.

Not to confuse you even further but if you are looking for a smoother ride quality than a sliding hitch I have a better option for you to consider. If you replace the pin box on your trailer with a Sidewinder you will get the benefit of the auto slide fifth wheel hitches without all of the moving parts and weight of a slider hitch. Plus the trailer will track better behind the truck and will back up much easier.
If you are looking for a solution that is better than the Demco and the Pullrite hitches the Sidewinder is the way to go. Plus we offer them with 5th Airborne cushioning as well which makes them very smooth as well.
Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.
There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.
Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
Then for a fifth wheel hitch that will fit your rail kit and give you basically the nicest hitch around the B and W Companion # BWRVK3300 would be what you want. The Companion hitches are among the nicest hitches on the market so we recommend them highly. The Sidewinder wedge you then would want is the part # SWW-06.
The Hijacker hitches do not have a reputation for being noisy or causing chucking. Most all of our customer like the way they perform, but with any slider hitch you will have more movement due to additional moving pars.
