Recommended Boat Trailer Tire Replacement For 175/80D13 Tires

Question:

Boat trailer tire size: I bought a boat with a trailer that has 175/80D13 tires, I have blown out three tires in one summer. My question is, is there a bigger stronger tire and or wheel combo that I can put on my boat trailer. It is a fiberglass deck boat with a single axle trailer.

The biggest issue with tire failure is overheating. I recommend you move from a Bias tire to a Radial tire because they dissipate heat better especially on highway driving. For your tire, I recommend the Kenda Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10210. This tire should be run at the max psi rating which is 65 psi. It has a maximum load rating of D which is 1610 lbs at 65 psi. The max speed suggestion is 65 mph for this tire.

If you want to travel faster, I highly recommend the Westlake ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # LHWL101. This tire comes with a load range of C which is 1360 lbs at 50 psi. This rire should be run at that max 50 psi. It has a speed rating of 75 mph. This tire also comes with a tread wear indicator to see the tread depth easily as well as complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. You will need to have a spare tire, but they will take care of it for you and replace the flat should that be an issue.
