Using a Hitch Extender to Keep Tailpipe Out of the Water when Launching a Boat

Question:

I just ordered this bar and now am questioning if this is the right solution. Every time I go to the lake with my pontoon boat I end up having to go into the water with my tailpipe under water. I ordered this extension to imply add length at the lake to launch my boat. Is this what I need?

If your tow vehicle has a 2-1/2 inch hitch opening then Curt extension # C45048 is a great option to give you more length between the vehicle and trailer so you won't have to dunk your tail pipe in the water.

If your vehicle does not have a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver then this extension will not work. If you have a 2 inch hitch I recommend going with a longer ball mount instead of a hitch extender. On a 1-1/4 or 2 inch hitch a hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. You can still use one as long as the tongue weight of the trailer does not exceed the reduced tongue weight capacity of the hitch.

The longest ball mount we have is # EA40 and it measures 14-5/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole.
