Recommenede Complete Weight Distribution System For 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 And Travel Trailer
Question:
My tow vehicle is a 2017 1500 4x4 crew cab short bed Silverado 5.3 v8 The travel trailer I am going to tow has a dry tongue weight 485 pounds. The dry trailer weight is 4,975 pounds. I do not want to get a system that is not rated heavy enough. I want the system to have built in sway control and I want to be able to back the trailer up with the system all hooked up, I do not want to have to remove any part of the system in order to back the trailer up. I am thinking and loading propane bottles, two 12 volt batteries on the trailer tongue and the 78 gallons of water the trailer holds that the tongue weight can go up real quick. I am thinking maybe a system that has a tongue weight rating of 1,200 pounds and trailer weight rating of at least 7,000 pounds, what do you think ? What system do I need? Please advise ASAP. Thank you

For your weight distribution needs, I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs GTW # RP66074. This system has a total tongue weight range between 600 and 1200 lbs. You ideally want your system to fall in the middle of that range. The total tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight of the trailer along with any cargo behind the rear axle of your towing vehicle. As you stated, the tanks and water will add weight fast. This system is the best for anti-sway with the dual cams and hot rolled trunnion bars that prevent trailer sway. This system will allow you to back up without changing anything, and will allow you to fine tune adjust your settings with the chain links for your driving preferences.
You will need a hitch ball like # 19286 along with a shank like Reese Weight Dist Shank - 12-1/4" Long - 2" Drop to 6-1/2" Rise - 1,500 lbs TW # RP54970 or # RP63971 for a drop shank.
