Recommended Hitch Cargo Carrier for 2015 Ford Mustang

Question:

I want to use a hitch cargo carrier for camping on my 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible. Which ones work without blocking view of my stop and signal lights? And which one has license plate attachment? Are there different options...

If you do not already have a trailer hitch on your 2015 Ford Mustang, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch # 24928. This is a Class I hitch with a 200 pound tongue weight capacity and 2,000 pound towing weight limit. This is custom fit for your vehicle which means no drilling will be required during installation. I have attached an installation video on your vehicle for you to review.

There are a few options available for hitch cargo carriers that are compatible with a Class I trailer hitch. I recommend the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145. This is a very nice basket-style cargo carrier with raised side rails that help keep your cargo in place and also provide multiple tie-down points. The inside dimensions of the carrier are 46-3/8" long x 17-9/16" wide x 5-1/2" tall. The basket has a weight capacity of 300 pounds, however you will be limited to the 200 pound tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. This basket will sit below your license plate and rear lights so there should not be any obstruction issues. If your license plate is covered after you load your gear onto the carrier, you can use a mounting bracket like # LPL55CB to attach to the carrier in order to mount your license plate.

I also recommend looking at a cargo bag to use with the basket like the MaxxTow Cargo Bag # MT70209. This will protect your gear from the weather and road debris while driving and includes six straps for added attachment security.

I have attached video reviews of these products as well as a link to our selection of hitch cargo carriers for Class I hitches for you to look at.
