Brake Controller Recommendation that Allows Different Presets for Different Applications
Question:
Hello, I have a 2008 GMC 2500HD that has along with other performance modifications such as up graded suspension and brake components. The engine has a 5 switch tune. Two of which are for towing less than or more than 8,000 lbs and uses the variable geometry turbo as an engine break. My question being if Im descending a 7 grade or higher for the next 2-5 miles Is there anything in the product line of Tekonsha brake controllers that would be able to automatically or be programmed to adjust accordingly to balance the two features without overworking the engine, truck, or trailer brakes? If not, would it be possible to simply use a second trailer preset in the controller with a higher percent of brake application? and if the case, can it be changed from one preset to the other and back again while on the road with out stopping?

Sounds like you are in the market for the Prodigy P3 brake controller part # 90195. This is a proportional controller that has a various boost settings to allow you to pick how aggressively you want the brakes to come on and it has the ability for you to save trailer settings. Typically people use this feature when they have multiple trailers, but you could use this to allow you different setting based on incline/decline grade.
This is also our most popular brake controller because of how well it works and how reliable it is. The controller will not turn on though unless the brake lights are turned on so you will need to make sure you engine brake activates your vehicle lights.
