Recommended Weight Distribution System For Best Sway Control On 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with load adjusting rear suspension. I have a travel trailer with 400 lb tongue weight loaded, and will have about 150 lbs of cargo weight. What WDS should I get for best sway control, and will I have a problem with the load leveling rear suspension? Thanks

You will not have issues with load leveling your rear suspension on your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee when using a weight distribution system. For best sway control based on the weights you gave me, you will have a total tongue weight of around 550 lbs, and that puts you in the tongue weight sweet spot of the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # RP66073. This is my recommendation for the best sway control available for your application. The dual cam system with the hot rolled trunnion bars give you a level ride and keep your trailer in line with your Jeep. The cams are overcome by the bars on turns and then automatically self-adjust and self-center to hold the trailer steady again. This system allows for fine tuning for the tension you desire.

This system requires the Reese Weight Dist Shank # RP54970 and a hitch ball. You will want # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
