The metric equivalent size for an A78x13ST original trailer tire is the ST175/80-13 size you referenced. Changing to a higher Load Range tire will not really affect your ride quality very much. But what this will do is help to prevent excess heat in the tires since they will tend to remain cooler if they are used below their rated capacity. A tire that has to carry 90-percent of its rated load capacity will get warmer than one that carries only 70-percent of its maximum rated load.

Since heat is a trailer tire's worst enemy, careful loading to stay within rated capacity, proper inflation (always to the cold psi pressure noted on the sidewall) and observance of the tire's speed rating will help avoid the heat that can lead to tire failure.
