Supplemental Braking System Recommendation for Flat Towing in Mountains
Question:
Is this surge type system ok for towing in the mountains? Does it apply too much brake when going down steep grades?

Expert Reply:
For supplemental braking in the mountains I would not recommend the Blue Ox AutoStop. Our installers don't like the braking performance of these kits and they are pretty difficult to install. Because of that I would not feel good recommending them for you especially since you'll be in the mountains where braking is incredibly important for safety.
The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot, # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. This happens to also be the best performing system we have so I would feel much better recommending this for you.
