For your 1989 Jeep Cherokee, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that will allow your trailer brakes to be applied with the same intensity and at the same time as you hit the brake pedal in your Jeep. It is customizable for your driving preferences and has 3 levels of boost. It has an easy to read LCD screen that takes the code deciphering out of the equation and sets it apart from other models.
To wire this brake controller, you will need to have a 4-way flat to begin. If you don't already have this, I recommend the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit with 4-Pole Connector (Includes Tester) # 119178KIT. This gives you the quick splice connectors as well as will give you the power directly from the battery to protect your factory wiring. You will use this 4-way flat connector to then use the Universal Wiring For Brake Controller Kit # ETBC7. This will give you all the connectors, wiring, and circuit breakers to allow you to use the 4 way and add the remaining functions needed for trailer brakes. This will help you with the reverse lights, the 12V power, and the Brake Controller wiring for a 7-way connector.
We do ship to Puerto Rico.
