Wire and Breaker Recommendation for Completing 12 Volt Power Circuit on 7-Way

Question:

I am trying to convert my vehicle from a flat 4 to round 7 trailer plug. I have found the necessary parts but I am curious, when I run the 12v wire to the battery, what size should I use? Do I just run a wire straight to the terminal or do I need a big fuse? 40a?. Also, instead of connecting the reverse wire to the reverse lights, can I run it to a toggle switch so I can turn the lights on whenever I want, and not just when the car is in reverse? Thanks!

You are on the right track! What you will want is 10 gauge wire like the part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) from the terminal of the 7-way to the positive post of the battery through a circuit breaker like part # 9510. A fuse would work too but a breaker automatically resets so you would not need to worry about keep a spare fuse on you.

Also your idea for the reverse lights is a great idea. Using a switch for that circuit would give you flexibility to have the lights on in other situations besides just backing up.

For the 4-way to 7-way adapter the part # 37185 would be what I would go with.
