Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2010 BMW X5
Question:
bmw tells me coding has to be done after wiring harness for hitch is installed. true? I also need electric brake. does that need coding?

With the install of a universal trailer wiring harness like the # 119250KIT computer programming of the vehicle would not be needed as the harness does not incorporate into the computer in any way. It only uses the taillight wires as signal wires. I attached an install video for this harness on a similar 2013 BMW X5.
For a brake controller you will need the part # 37185 first to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. Then you would need 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) ran through a circuit breaker like part # 9510 to the positive battery terminal so that you can install and use the Prodigy RF part # TK94FR.
