Recommended Brake Controller For 2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5
Question:
I have a 2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with the factory wiring harness both the 7 way and the 4 way. As I prepare to purchase my first travel trailer, with a max weight of 4500 lbs., I am searching for the right kind of brake control unit. I understand that the proportional units are the better, but what I am not clear on is do these units follow the old saying...you get what you pay for...? I am considering the Tekonsha P2 controller. Also, I am trying to find where the mysterious factory plug is located inside my truck. Do you have any guidance as to its location? Thanks for your help.

For your 2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5, I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 that you mentioned. This is a proportional brake controller meaning that this controller will help your trailer brakes to respond with the same intensity and at the same time as you hit the brakes in your truck. This is a really nice feature and this normally makes the proportional controllers a little more expensive than the time delayed models. The P2, is one of our best sellers because of its function. We have had very satisfied customers with this particular unit. It gives you 3 boost levels to choose from and will alert you to any potential problems with its continuous diagnostic checks.
This controller will connect directly into your dash with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controller - Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra # 3031-P. This adapter plugs into the connector behind your vehicle's dashboard. The exact location of the plug can vary but you will know you have the right one when the plug easily connects.
