Blue Ox Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Coachman Catalina
Question:
Hi, I am looking at the Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch and am wondering what size bars you would recommend for my setup. I have a 2017 Ram 2500 cummins and am pulling a Coachman Catalina SBX 321bhdscx camper with a gross weight of 9500lbs a empty weight of 7750lbs and advertised tongue weight of 790lbs. I was thinking the 1500 model but am wondering if that is too much ? Thank you

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
Based on the tongue weight of your trailer and the fact that the number you listed is the dry tongue weight without any cargo in the tow vehicle most likely the 1,500 lb tongue weight Blue Ox Sway Pro part # BXW1500 would work well as it has a tongue weight range of 1,000 to 1,500 lbs.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
