The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big will result in a stiff, uncomfortable experience.

For your trailer that weighs 3100 lbs the tongue weight will be between 310 and 465 lbs dry weight. With the loaded cargo, water, food, camping gear, coolers and any other gear you could add 200 to 300 lbs to the trailer and possibly behind the rear axle.

I recommend a system like part # RP66559. This system is designed for a tongue weight between 500 and 1,000 lbs. This system has friction pads that help reduce sway caused by passing traffic or high winds.

The hitch ball is sold separately so for a 2-inch ball you can use part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball use part # 19286.
