Recommended 5th Wheel Sliding Hitch For 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 With 6-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
MY Vehicle: 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 6.0l Gas 6-1/2 Foot Bed w/spray-in liner. No previous hitch. Soon purchasing a 2017 Grand Design Reflection 29RS 5th Wheel. Need hitch suggestions. Do not want gooseneck hitch. Pullrite is too expensive, so not interested. Prefer something easy to remove when not in use. Not opposed to a slider but would prefer not to use one if you think it is feasible not to use a slider on a 6 1/2foot box. Thanks

For your 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 6.5 foot bed, I recommend using a sliding hitch unless you want to use a Sidewinder pin box to replace your factory pin box. To get the correct sidewinder you will need to know the pin box number for your trailer. This will allow you to use a non-sliding hitch with a short bed truck because it has a rotating turret that moves the pivot point back 22 inches for greater turning clearance. Without a sidewinder, you will need a sliding hitch to have enough clearance to keep your trailer from hitting your truck cab.
For a slider, I recommend using the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider # C16541. This hitch has a round bar slider for non-binding movement and the hitch head has the integrated 3 point connection indicator. It has interlocking jaws for excellent king pin contact to reduce jarring and chucking. This sliding hitch offers 12 inches of travel between the two locking positions for turning clearance. I've attached a video to assist.
For your rail kit, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP56001-53. This is a custom fit for your vehicle and the outboard design ensures simple access to the mounting points. This system avoids underbed components for easier installation. The custom brackets use existing holes in the frame so you don't need to drill into your frame. This kit comes will all the grade 8 hardware you need.
