Will Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Fit a 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid with Moonroof and Hold Kayaks and Bikes

Question:

I know there are some limitations on trunk mounted bike carriers on the 2014 Fusion Hybrid, so I am looking at the possibility of a roof rack for hauling bikes and 2 kayaks. Is this roof rack OK to use on the Hybrid with a moon-roof. If so, how much weight can I put on the Fusion Hybrid roof.

The Rhino-Rack roof rack # RR52SR is a fit for all models of the 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion so I am happy to report that it will fit your Fusion hybrid. The moon roof, if it opens into a cavity in the roof and doesn't raise up above the roof line, will not be an issue. If it does rise up above the roof line then it is possible that a crossbar could get in the way.

As far as the capacity of the roof rack I did some checking and the roof does not have a listed capacity in the owner's manual. So I checked with Ford and the accessory roof rack they sell for your Fusion is made by Thule and it has a capacity of 110 pounds so that is what you will need to go by.

The 110 pound capacity is plenty for a couple of bikes but depending on the weight of the kayaks and the carriers used it is possible to exceed the capacity.

For a roof mount bike rack that will fit this roof rack I recommend the MountainTrail # RBC035. This is a very stable fork-mount rack. For a kayak carrier I recommend the J-Style carrier # S512. As it comes it holds one kayak but you can add expansion arm # RRS512X and it will hold 2 kayaks.
